The Petersham Hotel, Richmond: One of London’s Most Beautiful Places to Get Married (or Stay Before Your Wedding)
If you’re looking to get married in Richmond I highly recommend The Petersham Hotel. Perched high on Richmond Hill with arguably one of the most breathtaking views in London, it’s one of those places that feels a little bit magical the moment you arrive. If you’ve already booked your wedding in one of the many nearby wedding venues, The Petersham Hotel is also a good place to stay if you’d like to get ready before your wedding and/or need a good option for your wedding night. I’ve shot here twice and absolutely adore!
Why The Petersham Hotel Works So Well for Weddings
Some wedding venues feel impressive but slightly intimidating. The Petersham manages to feel elegant and grand while still being warm and welcoming.
Inside you'll find classic Victorian architecture, sweeping staircases, large windows and beautifully decorated reception rooms. The combination of period charm and natural light creates a timeless feel that photographs wonderfully.
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings here is the variety. You can create elegant indoor portraits in your room or on the stunning sweeping staircase as you walk in. You can also opt for relaxed candid moments overlooking the Thames, and romantic couple photographs just a short stroll away on Richmond Hill.
The venue works equally well for intimate celebrations and larger weddings, and there's a sense of calm here that many London venues struggle to offer.
Staying at The Petersham Before Your Richmond Wedding
Even if you're getting married elsewhere in Richmond, The Petersham makes a fantastic place to stay.
Perhaps you're getting married at Richmond Registry Office, having your reception at another local venue, or planning a ceremony nearby. Booking a room at The Petersham allows you to turn your wedding into a proper weekend experience.
The hotel has over 60 bedrooms and suites, many of which enjoy spectacular river views. Waking up on your wedding morning overlooking the Thames is a pretty special way to start the day.
It's also a lovely option for family members travelling from further afield, giving everyone somewhere comfortable and memorable to stay together.
Even if the weather doesn't cooperate, the hotel's interiors provide plenty of beautiful locations for photographs. The elegant décor, large windows and classic details mean you're never short of a good backdrop.
