There’s nothing quite like a Greek wedding in London. The traditions, the families, the emotion, the beautiful Orthodox ceremony – and, of course, the party afterwards! Louisa and Seb’s wedding at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Nectarios in Battersea had all of this and more, and was an absolute joy to photograph.

As a Greek wedding photographer in London, I’ve photographed literally hundreds of Greek weddings over the years, and I never tire of them. They’re wonderfully visual, full of meaningful traditions and, most importantly for me, full of the HAPPIEST people and genuine moments. Louisa and Seb’s wedding was exactly that – warm, lively and packed with fun times from beginning to end.

The Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Nectarios, Battersea

Louisa and Seb were married at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Nectarios, at 19 Wycliffe Road in Battersea, South West London. The church sits at the heart of a vibrant Orthodox community and is part of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, which in turn belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Services at Saint Nectarios are held in both Greek and English, reflecting the wonderfully diverse Orthodox community it serves. Its perfect for those couples who would struggle to understand a lot of the Greek ceremony.

For a photographer, an Orthodox church is a very special environment to work in. The icons, candles, incense, ceremonial crowns and rich traditions give the photographs a completely different atmosphere from a civil wedding. I always want to capture that sense of place without allowing the photography to intrude on the ceremony itself.

Saint Nectarios is particularly lovely for this. It feels intimate and very much like a community church, which suited Louisa and Seb’s wedding beautifully.
