Which South London Park Is Right for Your Family Photoshoot?
Clapham Common: lots of variety in one walk
Clapham Common gives us open space, mature trees, ponds and the bandstand. We can get a lovely mix of backgrounds without asking the children to stay in one place for too long.
It’s a great choice if Clapham is already part of your family life and you’d like your photos to have that familiar, local feel.
Choose Clapham Common if: you’d like a varied gallery with a real sense of place. There are also a considerable amount of cafes/ice-cream shops/restaurants within an easy walk.
Wandsworth Common: leafy and gentle
Wandsworth Common has trees, paths, grassland and ponds, with plenty of spots for a relaxed wander. I’d suggest it for families who picture natural photographs of the children exploring, holding hands or stopping for a cuddle.
If you have a baby or toddler, we can plan a short route around an easy meeting point. There’s no need to cover the whole common to make a lovely gallery.
Choose Wandsworth Common if: you’d like leafy, understated photos at an easy pace.
Tooting Commons: room to roam
Tooting Common, which includes Tooting Bec Common and Tooting Graveney Common, has broad grassy areas and woodland. It works beautifully for children who need to move. We can follow their lead with a walk, a game or a bit of exploring.
It’s a large space, so we’d agree on a specific meeting point beforehand and keep the session to one manageable area.
Choose Tooting Commons if: you want space for your children to run and a natural, outdoorsy feel.
Brockwell Park: gardens, views and a little of everything
Brockwell Park is a lovely option if you want more variety within a park setting. It has open meadows, ponds, mature trees and the Walled Garden, as well as lovely views from its higher ground. That gives us the option of wide, playful family photos alongside quieter moments among the trees or garden paths.
Because the park is hilly, I’d plan the route around your children’s ages and how much walking everyone feels like doing. We can keep things simple with a small area or make more of a wander if your family enjoys exploring.
Choose Brockwell Park if: you’d love a mix of open space, stunning flower gardens and views in your photographs.

And honestly, the best location is often the one where your family feels at home. If your children know the paths, have a favourite tree or always ask to visit a particular park, that familiarity can help them relax in front of the camera.
A few tips before your family photoshoot
Choose a time that suits your children. Good light helps, but a well-rested child matters more. We’ll work around naps and meals where we can.
Wear clothes you can move in. Comfortable shoes are useful, especially if we’re walking on grass or exploring with little ones. You don’t need matching outfits.
Bring a snack and an extra layer. A quick break is absolutely fine, and South London weather can change its mind.
Let the children be children. Nobody needs to smile at the camera for the whole session. Running towards you, climbing into your lap or sharing a joke can make the photographs you treasure most.
