The Trafalgar Chelsea: A Wedding Reception Opposite Chelsea Old Town Hall
If you’ve just got married at Chelsea Old Town Hall and would rather spend your first hour as newlyweds drinking Champagne than travelling across London, The Trafalgar could hardly be more convenient. This impressive pub is located directly opposite the Town Hall on the King’s Road, making it an easy choice for post-ceremony drinks, lunch or a full wedding reception.
Celebrate Straight After Your Chelsea Town Hall Wedding
One of the biggest advantages of The Trafalgar is its location. Once you’ve said your vows, signed the register and taken those all-important confetti photographs on the iconic Chelsea Old Town Hall steps, you only need to cross the road to continue the celebrations.
There’s no need to arrange taxis or worry about guests getting separated en route. Everyone can simply wander over together, ready for a glass of fizz and something delicious to eat.
Before heading inside, we can also take a little time for relaxed wedding photographs around Chelsea. The steps of the Town Hall, the King’s Road and the surrounding Chelsea streets provide plenty of brilliant backdrops - all within easy walking distance of the pub.
Wedding Reception Spaces at The Trafalgar
The Trafalgar offers several options for weddings, from a relaxed gathering after your ceremony to a larger private celebration.
The Dining Room
The Dining Room is a warm and intimate space with burgundy walls, chandeliers, artwork, dark wooden tables and tan leather seating. It can accommodate up to 45 seated guests, making it particularly well suited to a small Chelsea Town Hall wedding followed by lunch or dinner.
The Old Banking Hall
For couples who want the atmosphere of a stylish London pub, the main Banking Hall offers high ceilings, impressive architectural details and lots of energy. It works beautifully for celebratory drinks, canapés and informal gatherings.
The Havannah Room
Located downstairs, the Havannah Room is designed for private parties and entertainment. It can be used for music, comedy, cabaret and dancing, so it’s a great option if you want your relaxed wedding meal to turn into a proper party later in the evening.
The venue offers both part-hire and exclusive-hire arrangements, with wedding celebrations available for groups of up to 250 guests. Bespoke food and drink menus can also be arranged through its events team. You can find the latest information on weddings at The Trafalgar.
Food and Drinks
The menu focuses on British pub food, with everything from smaller bar snacks and oysters and favourites, weekend brunch and Sunday roasts. There’s also a good choice of craft beer, wine, cocktails and Champagne - everything you need for a post-wedding toast.
Depending on the style of your day, you could keep things simple with drinks and a relaxed lunch or seated meal followed by music and dancing downstairs.
Is The Trafalgar Right for Your Chelsea Wedding?
The Trafalgar is a particularly good option if you’re planning:
A small or medium-sized Chelsea Town Hall wedding
Drinks and lunch immediately after your ceremony
A relaxed pub wedding reception in Chelsea
A private dining celebration for close family and friends
A larger evening party with music or DJ
A wedding day with very little travelling between venues
Its location makes the transition from ceremony to reception wonderfully straightforward, whille the interiors feel stylish and memorable enough for such an important occasion.
A Beautiful New Pub in a Historic Chelsea Building
The Trafalgar opened in 2025 following a major redevelopment of a Grade II-listed former bank. The building was originally constructed in 1909 and designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield, the architect also responsible for Chequers.
Inside, it retains plenty of its original grandeur. The Old Banking Hall has soaring ceilings, large arched windows, chandeliers, vintage artwork and handsome period detailing. It feels special enough for a wedding while still having the warmth and informality of a really good pub.
As a photographer, I particularly love venues with plenty of character. The tall windows and rich interiors at The Trafalgar provide a lovely setting for natural photographs of guests chatting, laughing, raising a glass and enjoying the celebrations.
Wedding Photography at Chelsea Old Town Hall and The Trafalgar
I’ve photographed many weddings at Chelsea Old Town Hall and know the building, its ceremony rooms and the surrounding streets extremely well. My approach is relaxed and documentary-led, capturing the excitement outside the Town Hall, the confetti on the steps and all the hugs, laughter and slightly tipsy speeches that follow at your reception.
Having the ceremony and celebration directly opposite one another also means we don’t lose valuable photography time travelling across London. Instead, you can relax with your guests while I document the day naturally as it unfolds - without dragging you away for hours or asking you to perform lots of awkward poses.
If you’re getting married at Chelsea Old Town Hall and planning your wedding reception at The Trafalgar, I’d love to hear about your day.
