Hosting a Private Event at The Queen’s Club in London
If you’re looking for a London event venue with plenty of character, sporting history and an unmistakable sense of occasion, The Queen’s Club in West Kensington is a fantastic choice - particularly if you’re a tennis fan.
I recently photographed a brilliant 30th birthday party at the club, beginning with cocktails and champagne on the private outdoor terrace before everyone moved inside for a sit-down dinner. It was an elegant but relaxed celebration, with lovely views, great food, speeches and cake!
What Is The Queen’s Club?
Established in 1886, The Queen’s Club was the first multipurpose sports complex of its kind to be built anywhere in the world. Today, it is a prestigious private members’ sports club offering lawn tennis, Real Tennis, rackets, squash and padel. Over the years, its grounds have also hosted everything from rugby and football to athletics, baseball and ice-skating.
The club is now best known as the home of the annual Queen’s Club Championships, the famous grass-court tennis tournament held shortly before Wimbledon. With its immaculate courts, historic clubhouse and long association with British tennis, it has a wonderful atmosphere that feels both grand and welcoming.
Located in West Kensington, close to Baron’s Court Underground station, it feels surprisingly peaceful for such a central London venue.
Cocktails on the Terrace
This 30th birthday celebration began with cocktails on the outdoor terrace. It was a lovely space for guests to arrive, catch up and enjoy a drink while looking out across the tennis courts.
The terrace gave the beginning of the party a relaxed, summery feel and created a beautiful backdrop for natural photographs. Rather than asking everyone to pose, I could capture friends greeting one another, glasses being raised and all the little moments that happen as a party gets underway.
French doors connect the President’s Room with its terrace, giving guests panoramic views over the club’s lawn tennis courts. It’s this connection between the indoor event space and the historic sporting surroundings that makes the venue feel so distinctive.
Inside The President’s Room
Refurbished in 2009 The President’s Room epitomises style and elegance.
French doors open out onto a balcony from which there are magnificent views of the famous lawn tennis courts. A beautifully impressive room at The Queen’s Club and perfect for your private celebration/event.
A Perfect London Event Venue for Tennis Fans
For anyone with a genuine love of tennis, hosting a birthday party or private event at The Queen’s Club is pretty special. You’re celebrating in one of the best-known tennis settings in the country, surrounded by beautifully maintained courts and more than a century of sporting history.
It offers something far more personal and memorable than a conventional hotel function room. Even guests who aren’t enormous tennis fans can appreciate the elegant clubhouse, leafy surroundings and views across the famous grass courts.
The club can host private dining, birthday parties, family celebrations, corporate events and bespoke sporting days. Some experiences can even combine time on the courts with drinks, dinner and a prize-giving - perfect for a group of competitive tennis-loving friends or colleagues.
